TIRED

I'm going to be really honest in this post.

Really, really honest.  But it needs to be said.

I'm tired of people saying how amazing adoptive/foster parents are.

I really am.

And I know there are people that are reading this post that have said this to my family... to your adoptive/fostering friends.  But there is something you must know about this statement.

We do not want to be told over and over that we are amazing.  Because we are not.  Maybe to you taking in children that are not your own is crazy and something you would never ever ever do so you're really amazed at when people do this... so you tell them that they're amazing.  And I thank you for that. Because it really does mean a lot that you would think something like that.  But we are not doing anything amazing.  We are following what God called us to do.  It's hard, rewarding, part of God's plan... but it does not make us amazing.  It doesn't.

Like I said before... I so appreciate you saying that.  I so appreciate that you feel that way.  But, being part of an adoptive family, we get so many comments, looks, stares, sideways glances.... I know you're trying to be kind and sweet and all of that... but we are not the amazing ones.  It's the Lord.  Who adopted us first into His family and gave us such an amazing example.  We are not worthy to be praised for adopting a child.  God should be.

Remember that before you say that to an adoptive/fostering family.

I feel like everything I say to your adoption posts are "yes, yes yes!" But it's so true. The things you say are exactly what I see everyday too!

I wrote something about this for school. People say that we're so lucky or that the kids were so lucky. But, honestly, this wasn't luck. This was God calling us, calling different people like your family and my family, to something.

Thanks for writing about adoption, because these things so need to be said!

Wow. So true. And I never really thought about it before. We are not special, or different, or any more amazing than anyone else. God is the amazing one for calling us to adoption and putting our sweet babies in our families. He is the only one who can take the credit.

Just like Olivia, I always feel like all I can say after one of your adoption posts is, "YEESSS!" Because I just agree with you on everything you say about it! Adoption is all the Lord, for sure! All Him.

You have such a precious heart, Emma! You are most definitely a world-changer and I can't wait to see all the ways God is going to use you in the world!

I was just saying again today how it bugs me when people say "oh it takes a special family to adopt.". It drives me crazy! It doesn't take a 'special' family, it just takes a willing one!

i am crying. i haven't really thought about adopting, because for now, it isn't something that God's put on my heart, but i know it's hard. i know that it's stressful, and i know that even the longest bath or the biggest cup of tea can't drown everything that you have running through your mind. it's such a big responsibility, especially if you have biological kids on top of everything.

but just remember, sweetheart, that you can cast all of your burdens on the Lord, because He knows that you are worth it. He made you worth it. isaiah 40:31. :) <3
